Drama
Drama is offered to students grades 7-12. All levels learn to work with others, memorize text, share solo and group work within the class, and work in a variety of group situations.
At the end of each semester, junior high students participate in a final public performance or dessert dinner theatre event. Senior high students offer a dinner theatre or performance event at the end of the semester.
DRAMA 7, 8, AND 9
Junior high drama focuses on students gaining individual personal growth and interpersonal growth with their peers. Using movement, speech, improvisation, acting, theatre and technical theatre studies, they gain self confidence and a sense of accomplishment. In addition they learn to effectively work with their peers.
DRAMA 10
Drama 10 is an introduction to the Senior High Drama Program. The program addresses three Disciplines that communicate: movement, creative meovement, time, music, speech and storytelling, choral speech, improvisation, puppetry, readers theatre, monologues, story theatre and two disciplines which enhance communication: theatre studies, (the history of the theatre), Technical theatre design, costume, lighting. Drama students should be willing to challenge and extend themselves physically, emotionally, intellectually and artistically. A live production which will express each student's own personal growth and exploration in drama may be shared in a public setting. No previous skills are required, just the desire to do their best and explore.
DRAMA 20
Drama 20 is a further exploration of drama skills acquired in Drama 10. The program will explore four Disciplines that communicate: Movement, speech (radio), improvisation, acting, scripted work, audition pieces, performance art, and disciplines that enhance communication: theatre studies, (the performance critique), Technical theatre/design (makeup, set). Drama students should be willing to explore various dramatic disciplines to determine their areas of strength. There are written components in Drama 20 which must be submitted for a passing grade. A final dramatic product that expresses each student's personal growth will be shared in a public setting.
DRAMA 30
Drama 30 is an extension of both Drama 10 and Drama 20. The program addresses three Disciplines that communicate: speech, improvisation, acting and four disciplines that enhance communication: theatre studies, the script, the performance, the theatre, Technical theatre/design management, properties and sound, Directing (picturization, directional concept, composition). Students will explore the writing of a play and the preparation for staging a dramatic presentation. There are written components in Drama 30 which must be submitted for a passing grade. A local dramatic product that expresses each student's personal growth will be shared in a public setting.
Art
The visual arts program is offered from grades 7 to 12 and encompasses three basic art areas, drawing, compositions, and encounters. All levels will experience a variety of subject matter and media (charcoal, tempura, watercolors, pastels, acrylic, clay, paper mache, ink) and will have the opportunity to work in 2 and 3 dimentional formats. Exciting field trips are offered for the high school art students.
